St George in One Weekend
One of the biggest questions I get is: we have one weekend here, what do we do? So here’s what you do:
••Pioneer Park/Dixie Rock - an awesome, natural playground in the heart of St George.
Be sure to find the hidden spots like “the crack”, the mini arch, and boy scout cave while you’re there! If you want a little less climbing, take a walk around Red Hills Desert Garden right next to it.
••Snow Canyon State Park -
So many kid friendly hikes and trails to do in a short distance. We love Jennys Canyon, Lava Rocks, Whiterocks Amphitheater, and Petrified Sand Dunes!
••Town Square - if it’s warm, take your kids to the Town Square Splashpad. It’s one of our favorites with the stream-like water and spraying fountains. Ride the carousel for $1 (cash only), or walk across the street for some old fashioned treats @juddsgeneralstore
••Thunder Junction All Abilities Park - the best park in Southern Utah! There’s a train that costs $1 per person (kids younger than 1 are free), a Splashpad during warmer months, and so many fun things to do around the huge park.
••Colder/extreme heat days: Head to the St George Childrens Museum! Interactive playing and learning, you could spend a long time there jumping room to room.
Kids are a little older? Go to Fiesta Fun to mini golf/bowl, or go to The Rinq or Grip Ninja to skate or release their inner ninja warrior.
••Hot Days/Need to cool off - Play in the Virgin River. There are spots off of Riverside Drive (Dinofalls) or close to Sullivan Virgin River Park that are perfect to cool off in. Bring a skimboard along or some sand toys and have some fun!
Ivins Reservoir is also a great place to go. Very small and quaint, but just enough space to swim and cool off!
Some popular hikes to try:
Owens Loop
Red Reef (in Leeds)
Aspiration Trail
Temple Quarry
Chuckwalla
Paradise Rim/Turtle wall
Scouts Cave
Dino Cliffs
Elephant Arch Trail
Some popular parks:
Vernon Worthen
Hidden Valley
Canyon Park
Millcreek Park
Highland Park
It’s the best time of year to be here! Hope this helps with some of the planning for those visiting!
