Owens Loop
Trail starts off of Skyline Drive or at Brooks Nature Park at the end of Main Street.
2.7 miles out and back
Ok hear me out. Dixie Rock is fun, but always so crowded and not so much a hike. It’s something you have to do in St George, but imagine doing an actual hike and getting even BETTER views with none of the people and still starting in the same parking lot 😜
While we did not get close to the end of the actual loop, this was a really fun hike with great views the entire time. There are lots of small stopping points you could easily have a snack and turn around and call it a day.
If you continue to the end where the loop is, it over looks Dixie Red Hills Golf Course and the other side of town, I’ve heard it’s incredible. But I loved what we saw and how far we were able to go to feel like we were still out in nature and hiking.
If you start at Brooks Nature Park, it’s a pretty steep incline to get to the top of the mountain. I feel like that section makes it more of a “moderate” hike.
We started at the parking lot of Dixie Rock, went under the tunnel, went right up the hill, crossed the street and started the hike at a much easier place.
With older kids, it could definitely be a fun one to do the whole thing. Little kids - go as far as you feel you can. We made it about a mile in and turned around.
There was absolutely no shade, I would not recommend this hike in the summer. But doing this at sunset or spring/fall would be stunning!
This hike is dog friendly as long as they’re on leashes.
You can also see desert tortoise’s if they happen to be close by!
