Dixie Rock/Pioneer Park

Updated: Jul 25, 2021

I’d say this is the most iconic spot to go in St George. It’s one of those you just have to do and is probably one of the easiest hikes in St George. There is a brief amount of climbing at the beginning and I get a surge of anxiety while I’m at the top of the “sugarloaf” whenever I bring kids because the drop off is steep. BUT it’s quick and fun to go up and you get to see the incredible city of St. George.

Pioneer Park around it is a kids dream come true. You can climb anywhere along the sandstone and they have a blast doing it. There’s a huge pavilion in the middle with lots of tables to bring a lunch and enjoy the day. I also forgot there’s a fire pit hidden a little behind the pavilion. That would make for a really fun night of s’mores!

Over to the right is Red Hills Desert Garden, which is a beautiful scenic walk. Behind that is a small hike called St George Narrows, which i wouldn’t recommend if you get claustrophobic easily, but is very fun to explore!

If you come on a busy weekend, parking fills up fast right next to Dixie Rock, but you can still get to it just as easily in the other parking lots (one is dirt, the others are paved).

We love this spot so much! If you’ve never been, you kind of have to go.
