Sand Hollow State Park

We love Sand Hollow and just went this weekend!
I have quite a few fun facts here for you, but first - thank you to @takeachancetoexplore and a YouTube video for my pictures (video on my website). We stayed on the south side and I took two good pics all day and the rest were 👎🏻 so I called in some amazing help!
Below is a map— you can see all the fun things to do at Sand Hollow. The south side is all beach and the most popular side to spend a day. There’s a few picnic tables if you get there early enough to snag one and not a lot of shade, but definitely the best place to be for a beach day.
SWIMMERS ITCH
Let’s talk SWIMMERS ITCH. What even is it? It’s a bad rash caused by parasites in the sand, and it’s very active at sand hollow. Here are some ways to prevent getting it:
•Wear waterproof sunscreen - any is fine. be sure to reapply as soon as the time length is out (good for your skin too!).
•Avoid areas with wet or damp sand. Beach areas are the most common, and kids are the most likely ones to get it. Try to play in the dry sand as much as you can.
•Use a topical cream like swimmers itch guard (buy at any pharmacy or on Amazon)
•Shower! Shower! Shower! As soon as you are done and ready to go home. Before you get the kids loaded in the car, shower them off and change their clothes if you want. When drying them off with a towel, do it briskly and a little harder to get rid of anything on their skin. There’s quite a few showers around the beach areas specifically for this. One is located right next to the rental shop and restaurant.
•Wear a bug repellent, ones especially with eucalyptus - for some reason they don’t like it!
Here’s more info on Swimmers Itch:
If you get swimmers itch: use an antihistamine or allergy medicine, it can help reduce symptoms.
Here are also some helpful links I found about it:
On the south-west corner is where all the rentals are! You can rent jet skis, paddle boards, kayaks, and even boats and ATV’s all right there! I have a whole list of other rental places below and not just the ones here. Be sure to check it out! There’s also a restaurant with great food and drinks too!
RENTALS
Here’s a list of all the rental places I could find in and around Sand Hollow. Some have access to use throughout St George, others are specifically for here.
Southern Utah Adventure Center
DIG Paddle board Sports
Zion Canyon
Atv rentals Utah
Flow water rentals
Mad moose rentals
Red desert rentals
The beach at sand hollow
Red region rentals
CLIFF JUMPING & THE ISLAND
CLIFF JUMPING, (which is closed this year ☹️), the island, and the best place to paddle board - in my opinion - is all on the north- west side of the lake. The beach isn’t nearly as good, but you can avoid getting swimmers itch if you go there.
When you can cliff dive, be sure to have younger ones in life jackets and teach them the proper ways to jump. Injury can happen so easily at the cliffs, so be careful!
SCUBA DIVE
Last fun fact - you can scuba dive here! Did you know there’s a sunken airplane and bus at the bottom of sand hollow?! I have a cool video you need to watch! You can sometimes see them at the bottom if the water is calm and there’s not a lot of people.
There’s so much info about sand hollow, it’s hard to fit it all in one place.
