Celebrate Pioneer Heritage in St George

Updated: Jul 17, 2022

It’s Pioneer Day on Saturday, July 24! What better way to celebrate our pioneer heritage than to visit a few places where things all began!

For those who are new to St George, or those who just have no clue what we’re even celebrating - Pioneer Day commemorates the day that Brigham Young and the Mormon Pioneers made their way into the Salt Lake Valley and made it their home. We celebrate our history and the great place Utah is. St George was one of the settling places of the pioneers and has rich history of the early settlers.

So here’s some thing things to do to celebrate before or on Saturday:

(not included is the festivities happening in town - I’ll go over that later!)

Jacob Hamblin Home

Brigham Young Home

The St George Tabernacle

St George Temple

Pioneer Park (Dixie Rock)

Pine Valley Chapel

Swiss Pioneer Memorial Park

Temple Quarry Hike

Sandstone Quarry Hike

Judd’s General Store

The Cotton Mill

Daughters of Utah Pioneer Museum

Greene Gate Village

Visit a Pioneer Home (click to see a map)

Pioneer Names Hike (Snow Canyon State Park

Some things you could do at home:

Play some pioneer games

Make your own taffy

Churn your own butter

Make your own ice cream

Make your own bread

Go a day without electricity

Any I’m missing?

Happy Pioneer Day!

**you don’t have to be Mormon to celebrate pioneer heritage or visit these sites! They’re history sites and have so much info about St George!
